God Keeps Us

As I hear the thunder
Rumble through the night
The flashes of lightening
Amaze me with their might.

I think of huddled bluebirds
Snuggled in the nests
Of forest deer and and baby calves
Bedding down for rest.

God keeps His creatures
Secure and safe in the wind
So why can we not trust Him
As He offers to call us friend?

We worry and we wonder
How tomorrow we’ll make due
When He’s already promised
That He will see us through.

We fret over piles of laundry
And dishes in the sink
Instead of giving praise
For the multitude of these things.

The family in our homes
The love that’s in our hearts
The glory of the sunrise
When the new day starts;

The grace freely offered
The irises in bloom
The friendships that He gives us
That drive away the gloom.

As I listen to the thunder
I’m reminded that I’m quite weak
But our gracious loving Father
Still has promises to keep.

He’ll lead us and he’ll guide us
Through the night and through the day
As the lightening of His presence
Shows us glory along the way.

So friend, as you lay down
Upon your bed this night
Remember that the Lord of Love
Will keep you in His might.
